  50. - You now have the ability to create and view basic HTML messages, 
  51.   including formatting such as different fonts, colors, sizes, 
  52.   bullets, and justification.
  53. - You can send text in plain format or as HTML rich text.
  54. - URLs are now automatically detected and highlighted.
  55. - You can customize and resize the toolbar.
  56. - Internet Mail and News now provides multiple language support.
  57. - The Address Book includes distribution lists and robust sorting

  86. MICROSOFT INTERNET MAIL
  87. =======================

  89. Internet Mail is a new e-mail program designed specifically for 
  90. the Internet. At this time, you cannot use Microsoft Internet Mail 
  91. to access your e-mail account with any of the following services: 
  92. MS Mail, cc:Mail, The Microsoft Network (MSN), CompuServe, America 
  93. OnLine (AOL), and Microsoft Exchange Server. If you don't know 
  94. whether your system uses these services, contact your administrator 
  95. or your Internet service provider and ask if they support SMTP/POP3 
  96. mail clients.

  99. MICROSOFT INTERNET NEWS
  100. =======================
  101.  
  102. Microsoft Internet News enables you to read bulletin-board discussion 
  103. groups, such as the Usenet, using NNTP-based news servers.
  104.  
  105. Contact your Internet service provider for the name of the news server 
  106. that you should use.
  107.  
  108. This product can also be used for support on a variety of Microsoft 
  109. products via msnews.microsoft.com.

  112. KNOWN ISSUES IN THIS RELEASE
  113. ============================

  115. For the latest information about known issues, see our Web page

  118. - In order to send e-mail to someone who is not in your Address 
  119.   Book, you must enter a recognizable Internet e-mail address (that 
  120.   is, user@server).
  121.  
  122. - The Address Book recognizes a name only if the full name matches. 
  123.   If you type only the first name, Address Book displays a dialog box 
  124.   with a best guess.
  125.  
  126. - The name you enter on the Server tab in the Options dialog box in 
  127.   Mail might not actually be the name that gets sent. Your mail server 
  128.   might change this information.
  129.  
  130. - If you quit Internet Mail and News while there are still unposted 
  131.   items in your Outbox, no warning message is displayed. Also, when 
  132.   you start the program, it does not check the Outbox for unposted 
  133.   messages.
  134.  
  135. - If you select a thread and then choose Expand from the View menu, 
  136.   only the first level of the thread is expanded. To expand the 
  137.   whole thread, click the News menu, and then click Options. 
  138.   Click the Read tab, and then select the Auto Expand Conversation 
  139.   Threads check box.

  142. TROUBLESHOOTING
  143. ===============
  144.  
  145. - If you run into a problem, try the troubleshooters in online Help. 
  146.   To start the troubleshooters, carry out the following steps:
  147.  
  148.   1. In Internet Mail or News, click the Help menu.
  149.   2. Look up "Troubleshooting" in the Help Index.
  150.  
  151. - Check your connection to your Internet service provider.
  152.  
  153. - If you are unable to send or receive mail, check the following:
  154.  
  155.   - The TCP/IP protocol is installed on your computer.
  156.   - All cables are properly connected to your computer, modem, 
  157.     or LAN.
  158.   - You have a PPP or SLIP account with your Internet Provider.
  159.   - Your Internet Provider or LAN server supports POP3 and SMTP.
  160.   - Your modem communication parameters (baud rate and type of 
  161.     protocol) are set correctly.
  162.  
  163. - Make sure that you use an account name and password for a news 
  164.   server only if it requires them. If you use an account name and 
  165.   password and they are not required, you will not be able to connect 
  166.   to the news server.
  167.  
  168. - To access the Microsoft peer product support newsgroups, carry 
  169.   out the following steps:
  170.  
  171.   1. Click the News menu, and then click Options.
  172.   2. Click the Server tab, and then click Add.
  173.   3. Type msnews.microsoft.com as the name of the server. 
  174.  
  175.      If that name isn't found by your Internet Service Provider, you 
  176.      can enter 131.107.3.27 instead.
  177.  
  178.   You do not need to enter an account name or password.
  179.  
  180. - If your mail server times out while you are sending mail, you might 
  181.   get an error message indicating that a recipient is unknown. If this 
  182.   happens, you should increase the timeout for your server. To do this, 
  183.   carry out the following steps:
  184.  
  185.   1. Click the Mail menu, and then click Options.
  186.   2. Click the Server tab, and then click Advanced Settings.
  187.   3. Drag the slider to increase the timeout for your server.
  188.

  190. TIPS AND TRICKS
  191. ===============
  192.  
  193. - You can change the sound that notifies you that you have received 
  194.   new mail. To do this, open Control Panel, and then double-click 
  195.   the Sounds icon.
  196.  
  197. - You can move the icon bar by right-clicking it and then clicking 
  198.   Left or Top. You can turn on the icon bar or regular toolbar by 
  199.   clicking the View menu, and then clicking Icon Bar or Toolbar. 
  200.   To customize the icon bar, right-click it, and then click Customize 
  201.   Toolbar.
  202.  
  203. - You can resize the preview pane or the message list by dragging the 
  204.   divider between the preview pane and the message list.
  205.  
  206. - You can change how the preview pane splits, or turn it off entirely 
  207.   by changing the options under Preview Pane on the View menu.
  208.  
  209. - You can specify that you want to see only unread News messages. To 
  210.   do this, click the View menu, and then click Unread Messages Only.
  211.  
  212. - You can set articles to automatically download to the preview pane 
  213.   by clicking the News menu, clicking options, and then selecting the 
  214.   appropriate check box.
  215.  
  216. - To view the e-mail address of someone who has sent you a message, 
  217.   double-click the message to open it, then double-click the author's 
  218.   name in the From field. You can also add this person to your 
  219.   Address Book by right-clicking the name, and then clicking Add To 
  220.   Address Book.
  221.  
  222. - To view responses to a particular message in a newsgroup, click the 
  223.   plus sign (+) next to the message. The responses appear below it. 
  224.   
  225. - You can use HTML formatting to send messages only to recipients who 
  226.   have e-mail software that can display HTML. Otherwise, send messages 
  227.   as plain text, which is the default.
  228.  
  229. - In Internet Mail, you can leave a copy of your messages on the 
  230.   server. To set this option, click the Mail menu, and then click 
  231.   Options. Click the Server tab, and then click Advanced Settings.
  232.  
  233. - In Internet News, you can search for newsgroups that contain 
  234.   several keywords. To do this, click the News menu, and then click 
  235.   Newgroups. In the Search box, enter the keywords separated by a 
  236.   space. You can also search newsgroup descriptions. If you cannot 
  237.   see the descriptions, click the News menu, click Options, and then 
  238.   click the Server tab. Click a news server, click Properties, click 
  239.   the Advanced tab, and then select the Use Newsgroup Descriptions 
  240.   check box.

  242. - You can have your signature added to all messages, including those
  243.   that you reply to or forward. To do this, click the Mail menu, and 
  244.   then click Options. On the Signature tab, select the following check 
  245.   box: Add Signature To The End Of All Outgoing Messages.
  246.  
  247. - To switch to your Inbox, you can press CTRL+I.
  248.  
  249. - To reorder columns, you can drag and drop column headings.
  250.  
  251. - To save an attachment with a message from the preview pane, click 
  252.   the paper clip icon, and then hold down the CTRL key while you 
  253.   click the file you want to save. The Save As dialog box appears.

  255. - You can view all the headers for a news message. To do this, 
  256.   double-click the message to open it in a separate window, click 
  257.   the View menu, and then click Full Headers.

  263. Because this is a beta release, no formal product support is available 
  264. from Microsoft at this time. However, two new newsgroups are dedicated 
  265. to the discussion of Microsoft Internet Mail and News and provide a 
  266. great deal of informal support:

  269. - news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internet.news
  270.  
  271. To read them, follow the procedure in the Troubleshooting section above.

  274. as the solution might already be posted by someone else who experienced
